Company Beginnings

Back in 1996, shortly after the Freedom CD was produced I got an idea to start a company to produce and distribute audio CDs and maybe a couple books. Fusecon is that company which is taking my hobby to the next step.

One of the toughest parts about starting a company is starting. Choosing a good, original, and easy to remember name is right near the top of that list too. Over several months I threw around a few names in my head. I though I had a good name with "Deep Six Productions" (aka DSP) but a few people seemed to think this had something to do with sex or erotica. Well, it didn't. And if some people thought that then maybe others would too. So DSP was dumped. My next great name was SYS2064 which has some meaning to people who are familiar with the Commodore 64. A lot of demos and games started at this memory address location. I had a great nostalgic C-64 web page idea too. I figured I could do better and then came up with Gastender. Gastender is the actually Eastender (like the TV show) but spelled wrong. I was on a softball team called the Eastenders but someone spelled the name wrong so for the first game or so we were called the Gastenders. I had an awesome idea for a web page here--just had to find a few gas pumps and gas station graphics. I had great slogans like "at your service" and "station manager" all ready to go until I came up with the current name--Fusecon. The Fusecon name is simply "confuse" with a couple of the letters moved. The logo sort of gives this away. The other good news about the Fusecon name is that it is unique; this aids in the ability to find the "Fusecon" web site through search engines.

In the summer of 1999 Fusecon was registered as a business in the state of Oregon.

Who is Fusecon

At the moment Fusecon is one person--Dan Wright. I don't expect to grow much but rather I will contract most of my work out to those talented in the areas Fusecon will be dealing with (Art, music mixing, etc.).

What are your Qualifications?

On the music side I played/practiced drums for six years--middle school through high school. I played cymbals and bassdrum for my high schools marching band (2 years). I also received three superior medals/ratings at the county music competitions--two for solo pieces and one for an ensemble drum selection. On the publication side I self published a zine and have written numerous stories for a variety of publications (mostly small press). I've even had a few of my cartoons appear in a college newspaper. I feel I've got a good ear for music and with a little work I can become a better writer.

The Purpose of Fusecon

The purpose of Fusecon is to produce and distribute computer music CDs or music created by computer musicians, DVDs with a demo scene slant and unique publications. Great service and excellent quality at a reasonable price is the objective. It is my hope that I can bring this "scene" to those on the outside. With a little luck maybe a few talented sceners will be discovered in the process.

Plan

The reason for starting Fusecon is twofold: 1) to write and sell books, 2) to produce and distribute "scene" related CDs and DVDs (e.g. created by people involved in the demo and/or computer scene). There is minimal competition within this field and Fusecon's goal is to work with other lables to achieve unity and wider distribution.
