From the audiophonik postcard:

the evolution of music is leading us down a road that takes an electronic form.
the next generation of genius musicians will most likely morph from this new
technological form of expression. audiophonik represents this future of
music which is an enhanced electronic experience in the aural realm. this audio
cd compilation contains music from some of the best nineties demo scene musicians.
a scene which provided a way for talented coders, artists, and musicians to express
themselves using and pushing computer technology to its limit. these talented
individuals formed groups and created self-contained sound/graphics demonstration
programs to show off theier skills and impress others. audiophonik will
take you to this next dimension in sound with twelve mellow-ambient to slightly
upbeat electronic tracks by the following musicians:

frederic "moby" motte, victor "vic" van vlaardingen, christophe "rez" résigné,
alexander "siren" brandon, jogeir "jogeir" liljedahl, gustaf "lizardking" grefberg,
erik "zodiak" stridell, andrew "necros" sega, anne "lluvia" haessig, kenny "c.c.
catch" chou, bjorn "dr. awesome" lynne, and adam "scorpik" skorupa.

My first impressions from listening to the samples was "oh yeah, another boring 303 infused CD". Out of pure support for the scene and respect for Dan I ordered a copy, just to hear it regardless. As time went by and I waited for my CD to arrive, I listened to the MP3 samples more and more and they grew on me. When the CD came in the mail, I literaly sat flat on the floor, placed the speakers next to my ears, and gazed at the ceiling reading the postcards. The CD was on repeat since then for about a week non-stop - I love it. Little does the world know that while others are listening to crap on TV and in subways, I'm listening to audiophonik. Just that thought made me smile many times on buses and trains, that thought alone. The CD is impecibly mastered as far as I'm concerened, and the sound leaves no traces of it's environment, except for the freedom which they allowed the composers. The great thing about this CD is the feeling it gives you listening to it. You know it wasn't designed by a record exec who also owns an airplane company. You know the band wasn't put together by some rich fat guy, you know the composers themselves understand music and love writing it and aren't just boy-toys. You know these people are real musicians, you can hear the music sounding great, pure moral music :). I don't know what else to say honestly. I've ordered CDs before, and have a very large CD collection varying from your $5.95 classical CD, to a full boxed set of the top rave cuts. Audiophonik sticks out like a tree in an urban jungle. An oasis of sound. I am perhaps overdoing it with these expressions but it's literaly how I feel when I listen to it. In the world of MTV, MuchMusic and really immoral videos, audiophonik is a very welcome change, and a positive step for music. I didn't like all the songs initially, but they work great within the CD, kinda like a corner piece of a jigsaw puzzle, something to grab onto sonically. Dan Wright, Van Audenhove, and all the artists on the CD, I would like to extend my thanks and I hope to hear more good music.

A very nice collection of familiar scene musicians. The tunes vary quite widely in style, as would be expected, and some are better than others but overall every track is worth listening to. The booklet that came with the CD is also an engaging read, and it's interesting to note the different tools each artist used to create his/her track and the history behind the piece and themselves. I think anyone who likes scene music cannot go wrong buying this CD.
